4 Simple Tips for Staying Organized

There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re constantly playing catch-up. Whether it’s with work, your social life, or your family, feeling like you’re constantly behind can be frustrating and overwhelming. One way to combat that feeling is to stay organized. When you’re organized, everything feels a little bit easier and a little less chaotic. Not sure how to get started? Here are 4 simple tips for staying organized to help you out.

1) Create a daily routine and stick to it

One of the best ways to stay organized is to create a daily routine and stick to it. Having a set schedule will help you make the most of your time and ensure that you’re getting things done. Wake up at the same time every day, eat breakfast, work out, shower, get dressed, etc. By establishing a routine, you’ll minimize decision fatigue and maximize efficiency.

If you struggle with focusing, maybe a daily task list would help. Task lists are not just for kids and can be really helpful for adults as well. A simple outline of your daily routine hanging on the refrigerator may be just the thing to keep you on track.

2) Invest in a planner

Investing in a planner is a great way to get yourself organized. Having all of your appointments, deadlines, and commitments in one place will help ensure that nothing falls through the cracks. Be sure to check your planner regularly so that you always know what’s coming up next.

Alternatively, you may prefer to have a digital planner or take advantage of some of the free apps that are available. Google Calendar is one that I use. It’s free and you can access your schedule on your phone. You can input birthdays, bill payments, create to-do lists etc. Whatever you choose just be sure that it something that will work for you. You may have to try a few different methods until you find something that sticks.

3) Set aside time each week to plan ahead

In order to stay on top of everything, it’s important to set aside time each week to plan ahead. This is the time when you’ll look at your upcoming deadlines, appointments, and commitments and create a game plan for how you’re going to tackling everything. This will help reduce stress and keep you organized.

What works for you may be different, but it’s crucial to have some sort of planning time each week. Whether that means blocking out a couple hours on your calendar or dedicating 15 minutes before bed, find what works best for you and commit to it. Sunday evenings can usually be a good time to do this.

4) De-clutter regularly

Finally, in order to stay organized, it’s important to de-clutter regularly. This can mean getting rid of items you no longer need or organizing the things that you have left so that they’re easier to find and use. Whether this is organizing your email inbox or tackling your closet, make sure you’re routinely eliminating any unnecessary clutter in your life and making the most of the space you have.

It can be as simple as tackling the recycling. Get rid of that newspaper pile, weed out any unwanted junk mail as soon as you bring it in. Staying organized is easier when you don’t let things pile up.

Staying organized can seem like a daunting task but it doesn’t have to be! By following these 4 simple tips—creating a daily routine; investing in a planner; setting aside time each week to plan ahead; de-clutter regularly”—you can easily become more organized and feel less overwhelmed in the process!
